History

Based in Saskatoon, Alto is a Health Tech startup dedicated to improving the lives of busy families by making the process of finding home care safer, more convenient, and more affordable. 

Alto was founded by Hadi Taherian, former Executive Director for the third largest retirement home management company in North America, and Dr. Rob Basi, Internal Medicine Specialist with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Both were motivated by a common factor: finding care for their aging family members. Each working in the medical field, they were acutely aware of the long term care options available and their respective shortcomings. They knew home care was the right fit for their families.

In their search for home care providers, Taherian and Dr. Basi came to the same conclusion: this shouldn’t be that difficult. It quickly became apparent why so many people choose long term care facilities over home care. The process of finding home care was stressful, time consuming and costly. They knew that if they were having difficulties, people without any experience in healthcare have it even worse. This is what inspired them to start their own home care business: Home Care by Doctors, where they prioritized providing a variety of health care professionals, from RNs to CCAs, to ensure every client was receiving the quality and level of care they needed at a price they could afford.

While operating Home Care by Doctors, Taherian & Dr. Basi noticed the wide range of services clients were in need of, the value of client-caregiver relationships, and the desire for family caregivers to manage the care of their family members. This is what inspired Alto.
