Learn about the Vetting Process

When we set out to create Alto, we did it with safety at the forefront.

Many professional caregivers who work in home care have already completed home support worker certifications, CPR & First Aid, and Criminal Record Checks. However, for a careseeker, the process of hiring a professional caregiver independently can be intimidating. Many careseekers have never directly hired someone before and are unsure what qualifications to look for or how to identify real credentials, leaving them overwhelmed.

Our Vetting Process helps careseekers and caregivers maintain autonomy, allowing them to focus on forming a great client-caregiver relationship without having to worry about all the paperwork.

What does the Vetting Process include?

  1. Identity. Does your name on a piece of government issued photo ID match the one on your other documents?

  2. Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector. This is not the same as a background check. Background checks, often done online through for-profit companies, do not have access to the same information that your local police station does. Background checks are less comprehensive than Criminal Record Checks.

  3. CPR & First Aid, to protect the health of everyone on our platform.

  4. If you have one, we will also vet your Home Support Certificate and, if approved, will provide you with a Home Support Certificate badge on your profile. Home Support Certificates include Continuing Care Aides, Personal Support Workers, Health Care Aides, and more.

Additionally, if a caregiver has any other credentials they would like to advertise in their bio (which we strongly encourage!), we require that they submit them to us in the Vetting Process so that we can vet them. You’ve worked hard for your education, and we believe you should show it off.

Note: All of the documents for the Vetting Process must be up-to-date. For Criminal Record Checks with the Vulnerable Sector, this means it cannot be more than 3 months old. For CPR, First Aid, and Identity, they must not be expired.
