Our Story
At alto, our passion is ignited by our personal experiences. When we think of how we can improve alto, we think of our loved ones - our kids, our parents, our grandparents - and what we want for them.
The COVID-19 pandemic shone a light on the long-existing problems within long term care facilities. More than ever before, Canadians want to age at home. Unfortunately, there are a lot of barriers still in place. Home care agencies are expensive, have a weekly minimum number of hours you have to book, and require communication to go through the agency before going to the caregiver. Other home care platforms out there charge monthly subscription fees and offer no protection to their users, requiring users to go through the time-consuming and stressful process of vetting candidates themselves. We knew there had to be a better way.
So we made one.
We vet the identities, credentials and criminal record checks of every caregiver on our platform so that you can focus on finding a caregiver that suits your family. We offer online payment so that you don't have to worry about awkward cash hand offs or etransfers. We also prioritize the fair treatment of caregivers on our platform. This means allowing them to set their own wages, control their schedules, and choose which clients they want to work for.

Our Team
Hadi Taherian
CEO & Co-Founder
Hadi learned the importance of home care when he needed to find care for his grandmother a few years ago. While he had experience with retirement homes, having worked as an Executive Director of a retirement home, she wasn't interested in moving. He became well versed in the strengths and weaknesses and home care and set out to create a solution.
As the father of two young children, Hadi also understands the importance of safe, reliable child care. He hopes alto can be the one stop solution the care needs of busy Canadian families.
Dr. Rob Basi
Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder
Rob is a Doctor of Internal Medicine with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and Acting Medical Director of Clinical Services, Department of Medicine - Saskatoon. While he's always believed in the importance of home care, he never realized how difficult getting home care was until his parents were both diagnosed with dementia. He knew then that if he was having difficulty finding adequate home care, people without any health care experience must have it even worse.
It is Rob's mission to make home care more accessible for all Canadians, enabling them to maintain healthy, active and safe lives in their own homes.
Blair Kelsie
Chief Technology Officer
Blair has been immersed in the tech industry for almost 20 years. He completed a B.Sc. in Software Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and has worked in key positions in companies such as Vendasta, SkipTheDishes, Hyon Software and many more. Being an entrepreneur, mentor, Software Engineer and technology enthusiast, he is no stranger to helping grow start-ups and taking products from inception to reality.
Blair joined alto because he easily recognized the importance of the company's mission to revolutionize home care services. He's dedicated and motivated to help build and deliver a world-class solution to solve real world needs.
